WWW Wednesdays (Feb. 5)

WWW Wednesday is a book blogging meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Hop over to her site to check it out :)

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

• What are you currently reading?

I'm currently reading Changeling by Philippa Gregory. I'm trying to pace myself here, I feel like I'm reading too quickly for my own sake. I don't want to just suddenly stop reading. It's a pretty slow read, and I have to admit her writing is not what i'd prefer to read right now but I have to be patient.
Italy, 1453. Seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is brilliant, gorgeous—and accused of heresy. Cast out of his religious order for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs, Luca is recruited into a secret sect: The Order of the Dragon, commissioned by Pope Nicholas V to investigate evil and danger in its many forms, and strange occurrences across Europe, in this year—the end of days.
Isolde is a seventeen-year-old girl shut up in a nunnery so she can’t inherit any of her father’s estate. As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft—and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape.
Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.

I recently finished Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. It's beautiful, and I feel like it'll take me a while to get over this hump it has put me in. There are just some books that make you feel like nothing else can ever match it. I feel like this time, it's Cruel Beauty. It's beautifully woven, expertly crafted from various myths and quite unique on it's own. I'm sad it's just a stand-alone, but there are just certain things that are more beautiful the less you touch them.
Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.
As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.
• What do you think you’ll read next?

I'm doing really good at keeping my to-read stack neat unlike the last time so I'm gonna pick one for one of the challenges I'm doing this year. I'm gonna read Alienated by Melissa Landers. From the looks of the summary, it's gonna be fun! Jennifer Armentrout gave it high marks so I'm hoping i'll find it as amazing.

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.
Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.
Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.
But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.
Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

  2. A lot of Philippa Gregory's work has been sitting in my TBR pile. I, too, worried about her writing style, but after watching The White Queen, I'm intrigued.

    1. I'm really glad Cruel Beauty is getting great marks :) It's beautiful. I'm almost a hundred pages into Alienated and I'm liking it so far. People say it's like the Lux series but I don't really see the similarities at the moment aside from the aliens of course. Thanks for the comment!
